uk gender pay gap tool but with history now(TM)

questions you might have

what is this?

this is a tool to show gender pay gap data in the UK. the government has their own tool (which is pretty good for comparing *between* companies), but, it's a bit of a pain to get historical data. enter: this hacky page! enter the company you want in the box above, and we'll fetch all the data that has been reported to the UK gov

where is the data coming from?

this site uses the UK government's Gender Pay Gap data. this data is all available in CSV under the Open Government License; this site simply smushes it all together to make it easier to look at trends over time

i have questions about how this data is reported!

the UK government's website has more details on this, and you'd be served best by checking there :)

what's your privacy policy?

your data is not sold or used for tracking purposes. unfortunately the UK gov does not provide an API for this (that i could see), so I've popped my own together using the CSV files they provide. both the server that renders this page & the API *does* have default nginx logs enabled, which includes your IP address. this is such that I can spot any issues that seem to occur most frequently on certain ISPs, and spot potential abuse / crawlers and block them

who made this?

val knight!. if you'd like to see more of what I do online, you can follow me on bluesky, mastodon, or via my blog's RSS feed

i just see "fetching employers..."

give it a sec! this is really hackily put together in an evening, so your browser is just loading in all the employers from my API. this may take a little while if you're on a slower network. once it loads once, it's aggressively cached in your browser so you shouldn't see this again

things i rely on for this

why does this just have male/female?

did you expect the UK government to be better at this 💀
